| WOW.... new exhausts anyone? First post other than intro here...
I just about had a wet dream while awake when i saw the exhaust/muffler setup
Its sooooo restrictive!! the 90 degree turn it would have been way better if it was installed with a more direct exhaust system.... this is where the wet dream almost came.... i actually cant believe this but i think hyundai set us up with a car that is VERY hindered by the exhaust system meaning that 306
should turn into 326HP or so with just a cat back and most likely better note
If anybody is noticing, thats equal with the g37.... i thought about the warranty and then realized, i can have both, if something happens just put the stock in before telling them
so yeah... it was pretty close |

| That's true, but then again, it wasn't a very small exhaust, so it wouldn't be that incredibly restrictive. I bet it gives a good 10 whp. |

| afterseeing pics of where the actual fresh air intake is I think you could also get another 7-10hp from a good CAI |

| Well, if the intake track is as horrible as the snorkle box that was on the Tiburon, then a CAI or even a SRI will do a lot of good. As for the exhaust, I'd have to say the same thing. If it's anything like the Tiburon was, then a good aftermarket cat-back will REALLY wake everything up (when coupled with a CAI or SRI of course). So, with that said, here's hoping for as much restriction as physically possible on the OEM setup!! The worse it is from the factory, the more whp we'll pick up on the flipside!! |

| of course the factory setup is restrictive, they have OEM standards. That means they exhuast can't be any louder than a preset decibel that the aftermarket doesn't have to worry about. Also, they have emissions to worry about, it sounds silly but a more free-flowing exhuast could let more hydrocrabons and NOx.
Now, having said that, I highly doub that just a cat back is going to net you 20+ peak HP, but what it will do is flatten out the curve, especially in the top end where the stock setup may choke the car a little. |

| Swapping out the exhaust on the G35 sedan is pretty much for sound only... supposedly there is almost no gain from an aftermarket exhaust. I'm interested to see if we'd get much out of swapping the Genesis exhaust with an aftermarket

| Supposedly Street Concepts are seeing 350 HP after I/H/E.... Dunno how accurate that is, the only place I have seen it mentioned was on some French car news site.
I do think that is a bit extreme from just I/H/E though, it seems a bit of an exaggeration

I work in the service department at a Nissan dealership, and I've had all kinds of 350Z owners come through complaining about having no gains from upgrading the exhaust. I think it also comes down to the fact that the 3.5 liter engine, that both the Z and the G35 share, is pretty much already at it's maximum output, so basic "bolt-ons" really don't net a lot of extra ponies.
With the Genesis Coupe, however, I believe we will see similar results to that of the V6 Tiburon with similar bolt-ons. So, with that said, here's hoping! |

I'm sure the gains will be good with I/H/E, but I REALLY don't think that they'll be 40 EXTRA bhp good. I'm figuring more like 20 - 25 extra bhp. Also, I'd really like to know where they are coming up with that number as well. If the Coupe is putting out 310 bhp (figuring with premium fuel) in stock form...how did they measure the difference after installing the parts? Did they take out the engine and put it on an engine dyno? Who knows... |
