Default Clutch Info?

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has found out any new information regarding the strength of the Coupe's 6-speed clutch as of yet? I know that the 6-speed clutch in my Tiburon wasn't worth a damn (went out at 15k), so I'm just hoping that Hyundai beefed up those components as well. Judging from the looks of the car, so far, it looks like I won't be disappointed, so here's hoping.

that I know of there are no technical specs out for the clutch yet.

Clutch life depends on many factors, if your always power shifting the car its obviously not going to last long. If your clutch went after 15K miles and you were not abusing it, your dealership should have replaced it under warranty

Yeah, I agree 100% with you, but my dealer said that it was abused. However, after removing the OEM clutch and inspecting it myself, it looks as if one side of the clutch disc just fell apart. The other side of the disc looked brand spanking new still. So, with that said, I think that shows without a shadow of a doubt that it wasn't abused, but that's just me.

Now, I'm sure that they have made notable changes in their clutch design and clutch makeup over the last 5 years, so I've got higher hopes for the new Coupe. I mean, I'm fine with upgrading the clutch to a better aftermarket one, but I'd like it to be more of an option...not a necessity (until you start making big power of course).

I'm sorry to say that Hyundai clutch warranty is only 12mos/12K mi, like most manufacturers it is considered a wear item. But if the dealer did not think that there was abuse involved they may have done what is called a good-will gesture & still warrantied it. Of course good-will gestures are based on mileage of vehicle & service history. You're mileage was low, but did you do all you're services at the dealer?

I agree though, in that the last generation Tiburon clutches sucked & were designed with a floating flywheel that could not be resurfaced, but had to be replaced when the clutch is replaced ($2200.00 job at the dealer) ouch.

God I hope Hyundai has improved their clutch/flywheel setups. Or gone with a better company than before to produce the tranny's with Clutch and flywheel.

they really seem to have put tons of thought into the idea that these cars are going to be driven by speedsters so i think that one of the preliminary things they would do is to beef up the clutch. i learned to drive stick on the tib i own and have had it for 5 years and it is just now wearing down so, i think somebody did something wrong on the install or product defect!!!
