Default Went to test drive....

Well after getting an email from a local Hyundai dealer that the Sedan was in, I finally was able to go to the dealer to test drive one. The car looked nice and I was looking inside and getting excited to drive one, I took a look at the Window Sticker and much to my surprise they had added a Regional Mark Up of $3000. I was just shocked and a bit torked by it. I totally lost interest in driving the car and was walking off to leave when a Salesperson came out. I told him I lost interest and told him why. In the economic climate we are in I can get any number of comparable cars, that Hyundai is targeting with this vehicle, at MSRP or less. I sent an email to the person that contacted me explaining the above, I've yet to hear back.
I'll wait until the idiots buy their marked up vehicles, then offer them Invoice on the ones that have been sitting for months on their lots. There is no reason to buy a Marked Up Vehicle, NONE.

that does sound crazy, if there wasn't any extra features with the car they are just looking to make more money. you should go else where and test drive it again, maybe your like it

It's how it is, the car just came out. I agree its stupid. Thats EXACTLY why I won't be buying the coupe when it first comes out.

One rule I learned a long time ago - "Never buy the first year of a car model - too many bugs to be worked out."

My 05 Tucson has had no inordinate amount of problems and its a first year vehicle. It needed to have the ESP program updated due to a software issue, but other than that its been reliable as anything else out there.

An easy way to avoid this mark-up on the coupe is to pre-order one a soon as its possible. I have been talking with my dealership and let them know they instant they can place an order, I will. My tucson was actually ordered as well, but only because I wanted the sunroof and no Black Tucson were in the country yet that had one. It took an extra 3 weeks to take delivery but I got exactly what I wanted. Now that I no longer need the extra doors or cargo space I can't wait to ditch it for the Gen. Coupe!

Don't forget that Hyundai Launches in Korea before the states so that eliviates some of those problems, plus they way cars are built today also makes for less first year issues since they test build cars for nearly a year before they are released to the public

That's a great idea about contacting the dealership and getting one ordered the day it is available.... Of course, the unfortunate thing is that means that there will be ahigher likelihood that others will get a regional markup.... pre-orders = bigger interest, which means that they can justify it under the law of supply and demand...

Regardless of how it will screw my fellow Wichitans though, I will be ordering one as soon as possible....

its not a pre-order. its placing an order the first day they can to ensure you get the exact options you want. My dealership had Tucsons on the lot when I ordered mine, but they didn't have what I wanted. After two weeks I got a call from a Hyundai north american rep who said the boat with my car on it docked and the car would be available for pick up in about a week. I showed up at the dealership and actually did most of the prep on the car (removing all the plastic on the interior and the like). My car had 2 miles on it when I left the dealership!

Went to a different dealership, there mark up was disguised has a paint treatment and custom pinstripping. $6995.00. The sales guy was really nice and said to ignore it, I told him thats what I intended all along. I went for a drive, there are only V6's available currently, it's a nice car, the interior is terrific, fit and finish are top notch. The Lexicon 7.1 Surround is AWESOME. The V6 isn't as strong as I thought it would be, but still adequate. It drives nicely on the Highway, great cruiser. It floats a bit on tight sweeping turns, but thats expected for the type of vehicle. Great turning radius nice and tight and easily done to flip a u-turn. I sat in the back seat and we put the front passenger seat all the way back and I still had several inches of clearance. I'm 5'11"and head room in back was good also. The trunk is massive, with just a pass through that will fit a set of skis'. The navigation system and information center was very easy to learn and use. I was impressed with the ergonomics of the set up, its easy to quickly glance at the info center then back to the road. The seats are very comfortable and supportive. Did I mention the Stereo, I brought a CD along and blasted it, good thing the salesman was young.
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I'll be test driving some cars for comparison and I'll try to post those here.

Also, if I was to get the Sedan, I'd go for the V8, the fuel mileage isn't much difference and once I added in the options I wanted it was only a couple of thousand more.

supposedly V8 is still a month or so out, but don't expect too many dealers to order a ton of V8 models, Hyundai is expecting something like 80% of customers to be satisfied with the V6.

Side note My Dealership here in Chicago has just one V6 model and it does not have the "tech package" (lexicon stereo and I-drive-esque knob), but they do not have a markup on the car. They are also a Dodge dealership and do have an 08 Charger SRT-8 with a $15,000 mark-up, so its not like they are opposed to marking up vehicles.
