| Something else that makes this seem incorrect is that cars have automatically adjusted to fuel octane for years. This is standard practice, and it really does not seem like anything that any auto maker would do.
Either the writer meant something else (no V6 which is equally preposterous) or they are an idiot.

Only time I don't use premium is on vehicles that operate better on lower grades, like my 65' Mustang & 87' Wrangler rockrawler. My BMW & Honda 450R require it. Besides on several trips in the past driving my 2 Mustang GT convertables, I found that I actually saved money running premium when calculating cost vs mpg. |

Poor thing was pinging all the time. | Ran fine on 89 undleaded, then again the engine isn't overdone/built up too much. But I parked it a few years back after the radiator started leaking & have not driven it since. Too busy rebuilding the Jeep in my spare time. Was going to do a frame off once done with the Jeep, but now wondering if I'm ever going to finish it. The Jeep pinged when I ran 93 in it so went back to 87 octane prior to tearing it apart.

| There is no exact comparison I can give, but we use 98 in Korea and many exotic import car uses 100 octane
We also have race fuel 105 at certain location near race track and some in the cities.
But, I been told Korean 98 is something like 92 in USA compare by quality wise |

| Korea rates octane in RON, where the US is measured in KPI, the conversion between the two is most likely where most of the difference comes from. 98 RON is still higher octane that what we get here though typically.
