Unhappy Delivery problems with coupe

We ordered a black track model with auto trans almost two and a half months ago. Now the dealer is telling us that Hyundai is not "slotting" orders whatever that means. We take it to mean that the car we ordered will be made available to us ONLY if it shows up on that dealers allocation.

We cannot get a delivery date from the dealer.....

What is really happening? Originally we were told 30-60 days, only to be told now, what I referenced above.

I haven't heard of that problem. I'd call the dealer and get a little more information.

Dealers for American car manufacturers can order cars direct from the factory, but Hyundai dealers in the US cannot "order" a specific car for you. All they can do is either hold the car you want if and when it arrives at his dealership, or he can find one for you at another dealer in his region. I suspect the reason your dealer can't give you a delivery date is there aren't any black Tracks currently available that he can latch on to, and he has no idea when the next shipment is due in from Korea. It's not his fault, it's just the way Hyundai does business. No other Hyundai dealer will be able to give you a firm delivery date unless there is a car somewhere in inventory they can grab.

You have two options: either wait it out, or find a car by doing your own search of dealer inventories on the internet. After my local dealer told me there weren't any 3.8 Tracks available for sale on the east coast, I performed my own internet search and located my 3.8 Track at a dealer 60 miles away. I drove the car home the car within 24 hours of locating it.

^ I've seen mixed ideas on that, but it does make sense. Maybe the "orders" I've read about were just requests that the dealer was able to find nearby.

yes Nissan, GM, Hyundai, and Honda can only search through invetory of other dealers i dont know about others because those are the only companies ive worked with so far.
most dealers are incapable of making special orders for customers, but they will try there hardest to get a car out.
