| Member visiting HMA HQ tomorrow - what questions you got? On NT I noticed a member is going to be checking out the Genesis BK tomorrow at HMA HQ. Post your questions for him to ask! http://newtiburon.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2540157

| Re: Member visiting HMA HQ tomorrow - what questions you got? posted my questions as well:
Magazines like MT has been qouted as saying the I4 can take 29psi, please explain that, does that mean, as is, the engine can withstand 29psi, or the block/heads can withstand 29psi?
Exact turbo being used
Gear ratios of the 6sp Manual, for both I4 and V6, as well as final drive ratio (axle ratio)
Size of stock intercooler, and is it a front mount?
Any camber adjustment in the suspension?
Size and offset of wheels, any chance of aftermarket 18s fitting over the brembos?
I saw the reply to my post about gear ratios and I was worried about it, and know it seems to be true, the 6th gear in the I4 is .794...This means passing in 6th is probably possible, but gas mileage on the highway could still be higher. (vette gets 30mpg highway cause its 6th gear is .50
Look at this
MPH@6k RPM RPM @ 55mph
1 27.7 11900
2 47.5 6949
3 70.2 4698
4 95.4 3460
5 117.3 2813
6 148.5 2222
R 40.4 8158
I pluged in all the numbers and here is how it looks, 55mph is 2222rpm, but notice how little the drop off is from 5th gear
Now for the V6
MPH@6K rpm RPM@55mph
1 32.0 10324
2 53.0 6221
3 76.0 4344
4 100.1 3298
5 123.1 2682
6 178.4 1850
R 42.4 7776
V6 has a little better 6th gear, but with the lower axle ratio you can see it can limp along the highway at under 2k RPM. With some mods to the I4 a tranny swap may not be such a bad thing |

Okay guys, here's all the information I could get out of the district sales manager I had lunch with -
First of all, I'm gettin a job at HMA in the near future...
Second, here's what I could do on the BK and BH:
- The Genesis coupe is listed on the model year chart at the building as a direct replacement for the GK for MY 2010. There is no 2009MY tiburon being made.
- He said that the current plan is to bring the Tiburon name back in the future as a smaller, lighter weight sports car after the Genesis is successfully introduced. Attitude within HMA right now is that Tiburon name brings poor connotations with it and they need something that can hang with the 350Z and Mustang in terms of name recognition.
- Navigation will be an option on the BH sedan, no answer on the coupe.
- Hyundai appears to be sticking with Michelin stocker tires for it's cars, so expect more Pilots like we got on the GKs.
- Unfortunately all the BKs on hand had been moved off site for another show so I didn't actually get to sit in one, though I got plenty of time with the BH. I got the impression that the boost gauge is going to be somewhere on the dash, and pretty underplayed, not out on a pillar or anything.
- The Brembo brakes require 19" rims for safe clearance, they're too big for the 18s.
- 29PSI is the maximum boost right before the heads literally fly off the motor, it's not maximum safe boost.
- No specifics, but I got the impression that Hyundai fully expects Mitsubishi to eat sh*t here in the next year or so, and they are picking up as much of the Evo IX motor as possible. The 2.0L turbo sounds like it's going to be a detuned evo motor with a cheaper turbo.
- Despite what you may have read in Car and Driver or Motorweek, Hyundai has elected to go with a chrome slatted grille backed by black honeycomb with the flying H. I saw on the backlot that they are actually going to offer clear front badge protectors just like you see on Mercedes & Lexus these days. Not sure that's going to be a big seller.
- The BH sedan's production order is going to be very small; roughly 7-9 cars per dealership at first.
- The BH sedan will feature a selector knob very similar to Mercedes' COMAND or BMW's iDrive knob to select multifunction dash modes, audio, video, XM, nav, etc. I saw a few with this on the lot and it looks very clean and simple.
- The BH will share base model front brakes with the BK, they look very hefty, much nicer than what we got on the GK at first.
- As far as catering to tuners, the guy said that Hyundai is offering the BK coupe with the four cylinder to do just that, but that they are gunning for the five door hatch market with a new chassis which I got to look at called the FD. This is going to be called the Elantra Touring 5-door, and it will be available with the I4 turbo and performance options. It is reminiscent of a Toyota Matrix, albeit nicer inside, more room, taller and wider gate at the rear and looks like it can really store alot back there.
- Rear camera was not mentioned at all. It's not even an option on the Veracruz that I could see. The guy said that Hyundai is really lagging in offering what are considered crucial options such as nav these days, and that it's been a hard road fighting to get those even to be available on the SUVs.
- Got the impression that a Twin Turbo V6 was absolutely out of the question given Hyundai's stance on performance sports cars. Forced induction options appear to be in the BH sedan's future because it is expected to move up in price bracket as the years go on and eventually sticker above thirty with heavy duty performance options.
Overall the district sales manager said that the game right now is purely focused on making solid, good cars. He said that everyone is highly aware of the brand stigma attached to the flying H, and that it would be suicide to drop the Hyundai H and start over again. He said that the game right now is just pump out enough quality cars to change people's minds, not to talk a big game or be fake about it.
So bottom line I didn't actually get to see or sit in a BK today because they're all on a trailer somewhere doing something important. But I can tell you that the V8 on a BH sedan sounds really, really nice.

| Re: Member visiting HMA HQ tomorrow - what questions you got? as expected the 29psi line was used as a hook, no real truth behind that. Would cost a couple thousand $$ to reliably run 29psi. |

| Re: Member visiting HMA HQ tomorrow - what questions you got? not sure it'd ever be reliable. That's the point everything would stock would essentially blow up. If there was something not perfect in the system, I would assume that number would drop substantially.

| Re: Member visiting HMA HQ tomorrow - what questions you got? no, read it again, thats the amount of boost the head bolts can witshtand. It says nothing about stock rods and pistons...I am sure the stock rotating assembly would be fine for maybe upto 18-20psi, beyond that I would think that your looking into rebuilding with higher quality parts.
Regardless, the stock engine will not be able to handle 29psi and untill we see some test drives we won;t know for sure what the car is actually getting (in terms of PSI) |

| Re: Member visiting HMA HQ tomorrow - what questions you got? you guys are talking about increasing the boost with a bigger turbo ...At that point, the impeller shaft could/would start to wobble and, well, blades touching outer casing = no good.
simple solution for this car = CAI & race down pipe-3in with hi-flow cat and 3in-CBE (no resonators) This is a simple and cost effective way to get the most out of this engine, the turbo will love it because of the increased air flow and will work more better with faster spool up times
more in & more air out that is a simple and economical key.You will be very surprised and happy if you do this mod with air flow.I personally know because i did it on my mazda speed 3 which has a stock Hatachi-Warner K04/18lbs of boost, small turbo but mazda was after the engine flaring not exploding but then again there are very nice turbos out their, just be educated and careful, oh yeah no one has mentioned the Hyundai warranty on these mods if a mechanical mishaps evolves...
